On short notice, I will have a new piece in a show at Aswoon Gallery, in DUMBO in Brooklyn. Here's the press release:

Pratt Artists League in collaboration with the History of Art and Design Student Organization cordially invite you to an off-campus event marking the first in a series of collaborative exhibitions:

Opening Reception for Inflating on Thursday, November 6th from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Aswoon Gallery in DUMBO.

Inflating is the first of a 2 part show entitled Inflating : Refinement, an exhibit showcasing works that reflect this dichotomy.

A new Pratt partnership: Curated and juried by History of Art & Design students for Fine Arts graduate students.

PAL artists were asked to submit artworks that respond to the following concepts:

Inflate: to expand or increase abnormally or imprudently.

On all imaginable fronts, our society is experiencing a swell. Politically, economically, aesthetically – everything seems to be building up, cresting into what inevitably will be a wave of change.

Refine: to free from what is unwanted, vulgar, or imperfect.

How will we distill this flood? What will be sifted out?

Inflating will be on display at the Aswoon Gallery Nov. 6th – Nov. 17th.

See forthcoming announcement for Refine.

I'm collaborating with my friend and artist based in Riverside, CA Lee Tusman/VoodooArtist/Fuck Sunshine in an experimental music project. During a recent visit, we recorded an album in his Riverside studio using a sampler/looper that I created on the computer, a shortwave radio and an endless feedback/effects loop that Lee has been working on for a while. The album will be called "Fuck Sunshine and Daniel Lichtman, Summer Sessions" and will be released on a limited edition mini CD. Each edition will come with its own original screen printed art work, created in collaboration with myself, Lee and New York based artist/printer Erik Hougen. The album will be released in coming weeks under Lee's experimental record label Jewish Noise Recordings. More info to follow...

I'm excited to announce that my new video sculpture (in the works in progress section of this website) will be in the show "Very Unhelpful" at the Errant Garrison Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The show opens August 15th and will run through August 31st. Here is a link to the gallery's website. They also have a show going up before "Very Unhelpful" which will be a collaboration between the artists Trynn Collins and Mary Hill. Here is a link to the press release on ArtCal.

A show proposed by my friend, curator and film professor Dr. Ara Osterweil, has been accepted to open the fall season at Nurture Art in Brooklyn. My piece Type will be in it, as well as the work of my good friend David Baumflek, in addition to a few other artists. The show is called "Politics and Other Diversions," and deals with the various ways in which contemporary arts and culture deal with and don't deal with politics. It will be a very compelling show with a lot of interesting work, which Ara has put together with great insight and care. The show opens September 12th and will run for approximately 2 months. I will post the press release when it is available.

During my recent visit to Riverside, California, my friend and artist Lee Tusman (link) and I worked together to produce a record for his new experimental noise record label, Jewish Noise. The sound was produced as a collaborative interaction between Lee's musical practice and my own. We used a sampler/looper that I created on the computer to sample AM, FM and shortwave radio sounds, and fed the result into Lee's feedback loop of analogue and digital devices. The result is a compelling re/de/re-construction of the sounds of culture and music available on the airwaves. We are still mixing down the album and will release it soon as a limited edition mini-CD. I'll post a link to the resease on the Jewish Noise website when the album is released.
